About Me
A multimedia journalist in pursuit of two bachelor's degrees in digital/print journalism and political science at the University of North Texas, John Forbes is a young, passionate and ambitious journalist ready to cover the world.
John's reporting covers a wide range of topics including breaking news, higher education, city government and politics, localized national issues, local and national political races and in-depth investigative pieces - some of which have been picked up by state-wide and national publications such as the Dallas Morning News, Texas Tribune, the Chronicle of Higher Education and the Associated Press.
John also had the privilege to work as the News Editor for the North Texas Daily where he led a team of 10-15 journalists to cover his university, the City of Denton, TX, and more.
As a professional journalist, John also freelanced in his hometown of South Bend, IN, for the South Bend Tribune - a local publication established in 1872 and part of the USA Today network.
Since August, John has operated as a reporting fellow with the Fort Worth Report, a non-profit newsroom in Fort Worth, TX, that is partnered with fellow non-profit newsrooms Texas Tribune, KERA and ProPublica. There, he operates as a wide-angle lens, covering anything he can get his hands on.
John also has extensive experience in photography, and prides himself on capturing eye-catching and emotionally captivating images that encapsulate and seamlessly pair with its article's topic. As part of his practice, he is also developing videography skills to help his storytelling and reporting skills.
